Who we are.

Founded in 1844, Banco Montepio is the oldest Portuguese financial institution, unique in the national financial panorama due to its origin and mutualist foundation. A universal, intergenerational, interclass and multicultural bank, providing financial services to private customers, companies and institutions in the social sector, at all stages of their life cycle.

Banco Montepio in Portugal and the World.

 Banco Montepio serves more than 1.3 million customers in mainland Portugal, the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores, and throughout the world. Headquartered on Rua Castilho, in Lisbon, the institution has a network of more than 200 branches nationwide and representation in France, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the United States of America, in the cities of Paris, Frankfurt, Geneva, Toronto and Newark, respectively, to support Portuguese communities.

2025

Cinco Estrelas Sustentabilidade

Banco Montepio has won the Five Stars Award 2025 (Prémio Cinco Estrelas 2025) in the Banking - Sustainability category for the third consecutive year.

 

The Five Stars Award is a system that measures the degree of satisfaction that products, services, and brands provide to their users.

 

Five Stars Consulting implemented the mixed methodology in three phases: In the first phase, through Focus Groups and an Evaluation Committee, in the second phase through satisfaction surveys to the brand's customers, and finally through a market study of the brand. Data was collected between June and September 2024, involving 1327 consumers.

2025

Escolha do consumidor

For the 4th consecutive time, Banco Montepio is the "No. 1 Brand in Consumer Choice 2025" ("Marca nº 1 na Escolha do Consumidor 2025") in the Mortgage Loan category.

 

This distinction was awarded by ConsumerChoice, which included the evaluation of 9 banking brands. Banco Montepio achieved 1st place in the average of attributes, with a score of 8.2, and recorded a final result, based on the weighting of the "Attributes", "Recommendation", and "Consumer Love Experience" classes, of 81.5%.

2024

Company with the best corporate reputation

Banco Montepio is one of the 100 companies with the best corporate reputation in Portugal, ranking 40th. It holds the 5th position in the banking sector and the 1st position among NGOs, in the category evaluated by stakeholders.

 

According to the ranking description, Merco is the reference corporate monitor in Latin America that has been evaluating the reputation of companies since 2000.

 

It is a reputational evaluation instrument launched in 2000, based on a multistakeholder methodology composed of six evaluations and more than twenty sources of information.

Banco Montepio is a Superbrands, for the 15th time.

2023

Escolha Acertada by DECO PROTeste

The Mortgage Loan from Banco Montepio has been distinguished by DECO PROTeste with two "Escolha Acertada" ("Wise Choice") seals.

 

According to DECO PROTeste, Banco Montepio's Mortgage Loan offering has the best Price-Quality ratio, both with associated sales and without associated sales.

 

DECO PROTeste analyzed the offerings of 13 banks for a 200,000 euros mortgage over 30 years, with a variable interest rate and an 80% financing-guarantee ratio.

 

Associated sales considered include: salary domiciliation, insurance, debit and credit cards, and payment domiciliation. The study was published in May 2023.

2021

Pioneers in decarbonization in banking

In 2021, Banco Montepio and Associação Mutualista received the Green Fleet of the Year award from Fleet Magazine.

 

This category distinguishes the business project to improve the energy efficiency of its car fleet.

 

This recognition follows the Montepio Group having started, in 2019, a process of replacing the fossil fuel car fleet of the various companies with a green fleet, positioning itself as the first financial group Portuguese to decarbonize.

Activist in sustainable development

APEE – Portuguese Association of Business Ethics distinguished Banco Montepio by awarding an honorable mention in the "Community" category, recognizing the implementation of good governance policies and models during 2021, which create value for its stakeholders and actively contribute to sustainable development.

Mortgage loan campaign distinguished

Banco Montepio's mortgage loan campaign won three distinctions in the last 2020 edition of the Lusophone Creativity Awards. The awards were received in the following categories:

- TV & Cinema – "TV Movie" and "Campaign"
